CPC50520 Diploma of Fire Systems Design

Overview

This comprehensive course delivers the required knowledge and skills to assist graduates understand complex fire safety system design and engineering principles in the built environment.

Students as they progress will have the ability to apply their knowledge to produce detailed technical designs and documentation for water-based systems and/or fire detection and occupant warning systems.

This course is divided into three streams:

  • Water-based systems,
  • Detection and warning systems,
  • Annual Certifier.

Where students only enrol into the Annual Certifier stream, they will develop the required skills and knowledge to perform annual or more frequent building fire safety inspections to satisfy compliance requirements such as the N.S.W. Annual Fire Safety Statement.

Students may select one or more streams depending on their area of interest.

Prerequisites

This course does not have any formal prerequisites, but the education level is set at a senior school level.

Course requirements

Students must have access to the following once enroled:

  • An appropriate computer with camera and internet access that can be used for Zoom, Teams or Skype sessions.
  • MS Word and Excel software.
  • Autocad software or similar (For drawing tasks). Note: Autodesk have a free student version.
  • Access to the BCA/NCC and Australian Standards.

Course delivery

Our Units of Competency are delivered in three ways:

  • by distance education,
    • where students are issued readings and assessment tasks.
    • Zoom, Teams or Skype sessions.
    • visits to your local public buildings.
  • face-to-face classes (which are held in Sydney throughout the year – Mandatory Attendance), and
  • on-the-job training (with your employer). If you do not have an employer in the fire industry, you can attend our Western Sydney service site to undertake this training.

Recognition of Prior Learning

If you feel your have the required skills and knowledge to undertake an RPL assessment for one or more units of competency, you are welcome to discuss this with our course Co-Ordinator who can be contacted on 1300 721444 during business hours.

Applicants should note that the RPL process can often be as time consuming as completing the unit of competency.

Course Recognition

This qualification and units of competency assists in meeting the requirements of the following:

Nationally Recognised Award: CPC50520 Diploma of Fire Systems Design.
